Music & Friends - new home in Terrace!
Society announces Wendy Hagen-Dennill as new "Event Coordinator"
"Five years ago, a few individuals, with the love for music, orchestrated an evening of "Music and Friends", which was designed and offered as a gift to the elders of the Haisla community of Kitamaat. The evening was intended as an opportunity to hear "good old tunes" from the 1950's and 1960's era, while spending time with family and friends from the local region. Performers came from Kitamaat, Kitimat, Terrace, Pr. George, Pr. Rupert, and Edmonton, bringing together a wide variety of musical selections from light rock, country, marching brass, classical, and contemporary. There was no cover charge for participants.
The success of this inaugural evening carried over to 2005, with more musical selections presented. Tapping in to this success has recently led to the formation of the "North Pacific Music Festival Society", for the purpose of encouraging music and the arts especially with the youth. The 2006 Music & Friends festival (Our first all-day event) was being dedicated to the purpose of raising funds for the eventual construction of an elders care facility in the community of Kitamaat. Working closely with the forward thinking Chief and Council, it was the intention of our 2006 music festival to assist in raising funds for this very worthwhile project!
2007 was our second year providing an all-day music venue in Kitamaat Village, and was once again successful. We unfortunately had to turn away many acts that were interested in performing due to time constraints. We found it necessary to consider promoting this event as a "2 day festival" - which we did for 2008.
Our 2009 Festival was posponed, and we are pleased to offer a 2-day festival in our new location in Terrace. See you there.
